Is the way that they're doing math different than how you learned it? Don't be afraid, ask them to explain it to you. That way you can learn what they're doing as well push them to explain their thinking; a strategy to help them get a firmer grasp on the material they're learning in class. This is called conceptual understanding and it is a good thing.
